October brings awareness of disability employment
October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. NDEAM recognizes the employment needs of Americans with disabilities and the workplace contributions made by this community. This year, the Department of Labor's theme is "Expectation + opportunity = full participation."
Tens of thousands of people who have disabilities or other barriers to employment are working toward their independence every day and thousands more have already become taxpaying citizens. This group is the largest untapped labor force in the United States. Over 60 percent of these individuals do not have jobs.
Many programs in our community provide employment resources for individuals with disabilities and other employment barriers. Employers receive benefits such as on-the-job training resources, no-cost job placement services and post-employment follow-up. A job trial ensures position compatibility.
Do your part every month to provide job opportunities for individuals with disabilities and other employment barriers so that they may experience satisfaction from working and enjoy full participation in their communities. You may be surprised to find that your employment experience becomes more satisfying as well!
