BSU improves to 4-2-1 overall and 2-1-1 in NSIC play, while Wayne State falls to 0-7-0 overall and 0-4 in league play. Bemidji State will be back in action today when it hosts Augustana in a 1 p.m. NSIC match up.

Saturday, the Beavers took the lead early in the first minute when O’Brien shot the ball past Wayne State goalkeeper Courtney True off a pass from freshman midfielder Megan Castro.

Bemidji State made it 2-0 when O’Brien passed a through ball to freshman forward Hillary Arechigo, who dribbled by a defender and crossed it to Castro, who was waiting in at the top of the six yard box.

Castro fired the ball into the upper right corner of the net to score her first colligate goal. The assist was also a first career point for Arechigo.

BSU controlled the first half outshooting the Wildcats 12-8 and took a 2-0 lead into halftime.

The Beavers picked up where they left off in the second half when O’Brien scored her second goal of the game, and team-leading fourth goal of the season, in the 55th minute.

Sophomore goalkeeper Sonja Barr was credited with the assist as she punted the ball over a WSC defender and O’Brien was able to run it down and place the ball into the corner.

Bemidji State collected its final goal in the 58th minute when Jessie Voeller tallied her second goal of the season by striking the ball off the near post and into the net after a pass from O’Brien. Junior Tiffany VanHaaften was also credited with an assist on the play.

BSU outshout Wayne State 21-13 and posted 10 shots on goal.

Barr made four saves in the game and recorded her second shutout of the season. She is now 2-0-1 on the season....
