The Nymore Beach public water access site, located on the south shore of Lake Bemidji along Bemidji Avenue South by the Hampton Inn & Suites, will be closed for improvements from Thursday, Aug. 12, until Sept. 1, depending on any weather delays.

According to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Parks & Trails Division, the improvements will include a new large concrete plank double ramp, a new stormwater retention pond, improved drainage, a portable toilet and a paved parking lot with 27 spaces, two of which will be accessible for disabled users.

The project is a cooperative effort between the city of Bemidji and DNR. The city acquired additional land to expand the public access, and the DNR will construct the improvements. The public access will continue to be operated by the city as in the past.

People interested in fishing should use the DNR's Northwoods access site and Bemidji's access sites at Cameron Park, Diamond Point Park (no parking) and Lake Irving, which provides access to the south end of Lake Bemidji. A small public access is located in Lake Bemidji State Park, where a daily or annual permit is required.

Construction will be undertaken by Bemidji Bituminous, Inc., the successful bidder on the project.
