In an effort to increase awareness of the services it provides to the region's elderly and special needs residents, Northwoods Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers has changed its name to Northwoods Caregivers.
The name change is one of several components it is working on to increase awareness of the Bemidji based non-profit organization. Support for Northwoods Caregivers' branding efforts is provided by Northwest Minnesota Foundation's Compassion Capital grant.
"We believe the name change is necessary to help people in our region better understand what services Northwoods offers," Cindi Lee Jernigan, Executive Director of Northwoods Caregivers. "The name change along with a new logo, promotional materials and website have all been designed to provide people with a better understanding of what we do and why,"
Northwoods Caregivers serves the Greater Bemidji Trade Area including Beltrami and Clearwater counties as well as portions of Cass, Hubbard and Koochiching counties with respite care, shopping assistance, volunteer handypersons and supervised visitation services.
As a result of months of planning with its board of directors and staff, Northwoods Caregivers' objective has been to provide the communities it works with a clearer understanding of the services it offers as well as identify unmet needs and implement new services, which fall under the Northwoods Caregivers mission to "connect, enrich and empower the lives of Northwoods individuals and families."
Recently, Northwoods Caregivers has also added homemaking services.
"As our board, staff and volunteers searched for ways we could better serve our clients, they identified a need to add homemaking services," Jernigan said. "With government programs being cut back, or eliminated altogether, we recognized this as another opportunity to meet a crucial requirement for the elderly and special needs residents in our region to stay in their own homes."
The purpose of homemaking services is to enhance the everyday lives of clients through assistance with housekeeping services such as laundry, cleaning, dusting, vacuuming as well as shopping assistance for clients who require help picking up essentials like groceries and prescriptions.
Northwoods Caregivers is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and a United Way partner agency. More information about Northwoods Caregivers can be found at www.northwoodscaregivers.org or 333-8264.
