ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Wildlife managers are closing the late wolf hunting-and-trapping season in northwestern Minnesota.

The Department of Natural Resources says the northeast zone closes at the end of shooting hours Friday. Hunters and trappers there registered 93 wolves by midday Friday, four over the zone's late-season target.

The season remains open in the east-central zone until Jan. 31, or whenever the target is expected to be met. Hunters and trappers have taken five wolves in the zone out of a target of 10.

The late wolf season closed Dec. 18 in the northeast zone, where hunters and trappers killed 37 wolves, four more than the target.

Hunters killed 88 wolves in Minnesota's early hunting-only season, Altogether, late-season hunters and trappers registered 135 wolves by midday Friday, bringing the total to 223.
