Northome Resource Center to no longer have a coordinator, but will remain in the city's library building

The Northome Resource Center, housed in the city library building, will lose its coordinator, Kathy Elhard Dec. 2.

Elhard, who has held that position since the center started in 2001, was not offered a new contract because of budget shortfalls for hiring a center coordinator.

The center offers free help to anyone, information and makes referrals to various agencies and assistance programs. Northome is situated a distance from the county seats of International Falls, Grand Rapids and Bemidji and residents are often underserved in outlying rural areas.

The center, however, will still remain open and be a "one-stop-shop" for human services. Volunteer librarians will have phone numbers and information on hand to answer questions or make referrals.

There is also a vast array of informational brochures and booklets in the entryway of the building, which are free to anyone. A private office is available for service providers to meet with clients in Northome. The library's hours are Monday-Wednesday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Thursday from noon-5 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m.-noon.

The Northome Resource Center phone number, 897-5565, will no longer be in service as of Dec. 2 but the library can be reached at 897-5952.

For any other information or questions, Koochiching County's toll free number is 1-800-950-4630.
