Northome Council approves contract for airport brushing

The Northome City Council met Feb. 1. with all members present along with two staff members, a visitor and two members of the Northome Airport Commission.

As there was noone for the open forum, the council moved on to approve the agenda and the minutes of the Jan. 4 regular meeting.

Northome Mayor Larry Salmonson and Councilor Jerry Struss discussed the meeting they attended earlier with representatives from S.E.H. and Kootasca concerning the water and sewer project.

The council then voted to approve $25 membership to Upper Red Lake Area Association following a short discussion.

A motion was made to approve contract with G&A for snowplowing runways at the airport as well as for the approval of a contract with ASC for brush removal along runways.

Discussion was held on possible new members for the Airport Commission and it was decided to have the candidates come to next month's council meeting.

A rental agreement for the Ridgerunner Snowmobile Club was discussed. Airport Commission members Leroy Thurlby and Rick Dreher discussed issues regarding selling fuel at the airport.

Problems with the snowplow truck were discussed.

Chelsey Reinarz was approved to be hired as part-time bartender at the Northome Municipal Liquor Store.

Liquor store manager Angel Stradtmann informed the council of the upcoming snowmobile fun-run that is being planned. Stradtmann also informed Mayor Salmonson that she is planning to use one week vacation next month.

The council reviewed additional information on the purchase of a POS. Stradtmann was instructed to look into annual costs on the system.

Following a short discussion, the council voted to approve having custodian Schue clean after Friday and Saturday nights, effective immediately.

The council also voted to approve the January 2012 financial reports and disbursements totaling $47,047.78 as well as approving current claims presented totaling $15.628.35.

Discussion was held on information from Jeffrey Janiksela of Electric Pump before the meeting was adjourned for the evening.
