Northern Township home is a total loss following fire
A Northern Township residence was determined to be a total loss following a fire Wednesday night.
The Bemidji Fire Departments responded just before 10:30 p.m. to the 10800 block of Tavistock Road Northwest following a report of a fire.
The home was occupied at the time of the fire. Occupants were notified of a fire in the garage by the home's smoke detectors and called 911, according to a press release from the Bemidji Fire Department.
According to the press release:
The Fire Department received the call at 10:25 p.m. and arrived on scene 12 minutes later.
Upon arrival, the attached garage and attic were fully engulfed.
The Fire Department was able to rescue the occupants' dog from the structure and remove some personal possessions.
The home and its contents suffered heavy fire, smoke and water damage.
No injuries were reported and the Fire Department was on scene until 3 a.m. Thursday.
The Fire Department and Minnesota State Fire Marshall's Office believe the fire started in the garage as a result of carelessly discarded smoking materials.
Twenty-eight firefighters responded and eight pieces of firefighting equipment were used on scene.
Assisting at the scene were the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office, Minnesota State Patrol, Bemidji Ambulance Service and Beltrami Electric Cooperative.
