Northern Township fire causes $30,000 in damage

A fire in and around a storage garage in Northern Township Friday afternoon caused an estimated $30,000 in damages, according to a news release from the Bemidji Fire Department.

Bemidji firefighters responded to a report of an explosion and fire at 12:52 p.m. and were on scene at the Heartland Circle Northwest location in eight minutes.

Upon arrival, they found a storage garage completely engulfed in fire along with numerous personal belongings burning near the building and a running wildland fire.

Bemidji Fire Department and Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Forestry firefighting units aggressively confined and suppressed the fire. The garage and the three vehicles inside were a total loss, along with numerous personal belongs. The estimated financial loss from the fire is $30,000. The fire is under investigation.

The fire department was assisted by the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office, Minnesota DNR Forestry and Bemidji Ambulance Service.
