Northern Heat eliminated from tourney
BEMIDJI - Bemidji's 10-U Northern Heat baseball team saw its season come to an end Friday when it lost 13-10 to Colorado in the loser's bracket of the Cal Ripken Midwest Regional tournament at the Little League complex.
Bemidji opened its regional tourney with a 3-2 win over Nebraska Thursday morning but lost 16-9 to Missouri in Thursday's afternoon action.
Friday afternoon the squad was eliminated by Colorado.
Colby Carlson and Mason Morris shared Friday's pitching duties and Reid Colley spearheaded the offense with three hits.
Casey McNamara contributed a 3-run double and Carlson added two doubles.
Colorado forged a 9-1 lead but Bemidji battled back to within 9-6. Trailing 13-10 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Bemidji loaded the bases but the rally came up short.
"We finished 19-9 and had a great year," said Bemidji coach Jason Brodina. "This group was able to play in a region tournament and showed that we belonged. We won one game and came close in the other two."
