BOSTON - A late third-period goal and great goaltending lifted Northeastern to a 2-1 win over the Bemidji State women's hockey team Friday night.
The Northeastern Huskies scored first in the game netting a first-period goal as the Beavers adjusted to pace of the game. BSU was outshot 10-4 in the first.
"We came out flat in first period," said head coach Steve Sertich. "But in the second period we totally dominated, and I think we played well from the after the second period. We had multiple chances in the third, but their goalie was the difference tonight."
In the second period the Beavers outshot the Huskies 16-3. Erin Cody netted her first goal of the season.
She won the puck in the corner and skated out to beat Northeastern goalie Florence Schelling glove side.
Northeastern scored the winning goal on an odd-man rush when Lindsay Berman collected a rebound and beat BSU goalie Zuzana Tomcikova with 2:30 left in the game.
Tomcikova finished with 21 saves for the Beavers.
Schelling finished with 28 saves.
Bemidji State wraps up the weekend series against Northeastern Saturday at 2 p.m.
