North Star Expo set in Grand Rapids

The 56th annual North Star Expo will open Friday, Sept. 18, at the Itasca County Fairgrounds in Grand Rapids.

Admission to the two-day event is free, with a $2 parking charge. More than 100 exhibitors will be featured, and the event will showcase $15 million in the latest logging, trucking and sawmill equipment and technology.

Loggers, vendors and timber company representatives from Minnesota and elsewhere in the upper Midwest will attend. The expo runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

This expo will also include contests in which participants can show off their skills and knowledge of the logging business, including the Loader Contest and Master Loader Costs. Other competitions include Biggest Cookie and Guess the Weight. For children, there is a coloring contest and a mini-loader contest.

The Minnesota Timber Producers Association is the state's largest trade organization for loggers, truckers and sawmills.
