Norris G. Grefsrud, 86, of Hawley, died Sunday, November 23, 2008, in the Veteran's Administation Center, Fargo.
Norris was born to Gustav and Martina (Bratlien) Grefsrud on Aug. 6, 1922, in Hawley. He grew up and attended rural country school near Hawley. He entered the U.S. Army during World War II, and was stationed in the Philippines and Japan.
Norris married Muriel Nelson on April 14, 1951 in Hawley. Following their marriage, they farmed near Hawley. Norris was employed in sales at Lakes Livestock, did carpentry work at UBC, drove truck for the Hawley Elevator and also worked at the beet piling station. Norris enjoyed anything that had to do with farming. He especially liked watching things grow.
Norris enjoyed playing horseshoes, bowling, gardening and quilting. Norris and Muriel made nearly 1,000 quilts that were donated to various causes such as Churches United, Dorothy Day House and WIC.
Norris is survived by his wife of 57 years, Muriel Grefsrud of Hawley; one son, Wayne (Edie) Grefsrud of Fargo; one daughter, Carolyn (Bob) Tepe of Germantown, Wis.; three brothers, Raymond (Joan) Grefsrud of Hawley, Earl (Priscilla) Grefsrud of Sedona, Ariz., and Ardean (Adele) Grefsrud of Cascade, Idaho; five sisters, Lorraine Grefsrud of Fargo, Ardell (Robert) Nelson of Helena, Mont., Glenda (David) Bengtson of Pelican Rapids, Wanda (Carl) Erickson of Hitterdal and Myrtle Olson of Detroit Lakes; one sister-in-law, Joanne Grefsrud; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Preceding Norris in death were his parents; one son, Jim; two brothers, Orville and Vernon Grefsrud; and two sisters, Mamie Peterson and Thelma Peterson.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, at Wright Funeral Home, Hawley, with an 8 p.m. prayer service.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, at Hegland Lutheran Church, rural Hawley, with interment following at Hegland Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Hawley.
