Norma Pearl Coleman, 95, of Blackduck and formerly of Cormorant, died Dec. 5 at St. Mary's-Essentia Health in Detroit Lakes.

Funeral services were held Dec. 10 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in rural Audubon with the Rev. Paul Peterson, officiating. Burial will be in First Lutheran Cemetery in Audubon. David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes assisted the family with arrangements.


She was born Nov. 1, 1915 in Audubon to Albert and Carrie (Rasmussen) Bakken. She was raised and educated there. As a young woman, she moved to Duluth where she worked as a housekeeper and later in the housekeeping department for a Duluth hospital.

She moved to Minneapolis where she worked for Honeywell Company as an assembly operator for 29 years. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Coleman April 18, 1959 in Minneapolis.

Following her retirement from Honeywell, the couple managed two different apartment complexes until he retired from Honeywell. They then farmed near Cable, WI for 10 years prior to moving to rural Cormorant for the next 10 years. They moved to Blackduck in 2003 and she entered Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes Nov. 1 of this year.

She enjoyed baking, fishing, traveling and her job and coworkers at Honeywell.

She is survived by her husband, Ken, of Blackduck and a brother, Enoch (Darlene) Bakken, of Detroit Lakes.

She was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters, Myrtle, Joe, Bennie, Jacob, Sylas, Ethel and Arden.
