A smattering of incumbents filed for re-election Tuesday in state races, with no surprises on the first day of filing.

Locally, Rep. John Persell, DFL-Bemidji, filed Tuesday for a second term to his House 4A seat. Likewise, Rep. Larry Howes, R-Walker, filed for a seventh term to his House 4B seat.

In the region, filing for re-election were Rep. Loren Solberg, DFL-Grand Rapids, to House 3B, Rep. Tom Anzelc, DFL-Balsam Township, to House 3A, and Sen. Tom Saxhaug, DFL-Grand Rapids, to his Senate 3 seat.

A number of 9th Judicial District judges also filed for re-election, including Beltrami County District Judge Paul Benshoof of Bemidji.

Others were Earl Maus, Jon Maturi, John Hawkinson, Donna Dixon and Kristine DeMay.

Filing closes June 1, with the primary Aug. 10.
