No spring break for 2014-15 school year
BEMIDJI — For at least one year, the Bemidji School Board has opted to forgo a traditional weeklong spring break.
However, the School Board, after soliciting input from staff, parents and students, has adopted a 2014-15 calendar that does not include such a break.
Instead, there will be an extended Easter break — days off are scheduled for Good Friday and Easter Monday — and a full two weeks off for Christmas. There also will be four early-release dates.
The last day of school is set for Thursday, June 4, 2015, barring any needed weather make-up dates.
If winter again proves difficult, the district has set in place a possible snow make-up day for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 19, which would still be in the first semester, and other dates in June, if they become necessary.
Graduation is set for May 30, which also bucks a district trend. Graduation is set to be held the Saturday after Memorial Day; commencement in recent years has been held on the Saturday prior to Memorial Day.
