The Beavers never held a lead in the loss and the Marauders pulled away in the middle of the game with four consecutive touchdowns.

The defeat knocked BSU out of a first-place tie in the NSIC standings and with three games to play, the Beavers will likely need to win out and get some help from other teams losing to reach the NCAA tournament.

The Beavers (6-2, 5-2 NSIC) remain on the road next weekend to face Northern State in Aberdeen, S.D before returning home to play No. 14 St. Cloud State on Nov. 5.

The Mary offense solved Bemidji State's defense, which entered the game as the top ranked scoring defense in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. BSU until Saturday had allowed opponents an average of 14.5 points per game.

The Marauder (4-4, 3-4 NSIC) offense passed for 379 yards and rushed for 193 yards.

U-Mary quarterback Craig Bagnell passed for 315 yards and two touchdowns. Receiver Tyler Steffan caught eight passes for 202 yards and three touchdowns. Josh Murray rushed for 117 yards and two touchdowns.

Receiver Justin Lee ran for 102 yards and Dustin Kropelin scored Bemidji State's two touchdowns in the first half on short runs. Brandon Miles scored on a two-yard run in the middle of the third quarter for BSU's only touchdown of the second half.

The Marauders pulled away in the second second quarter with three touchdowns. Mary converted a Rongstad interception into a touchdown to take a 21-7 lead two minutes into the quarter. On the first play after that interception, Curtis Darrah hit Steffan for a 64-yard touchdown on a halfback pass play.

BSU answered when Rongstad's 33-yard run set up Kroeplin's 1-yard touchdown dive with 3:14 left in the second quarter to cut U-Mary's lead to 21-14.

It was as close as the Beavers would get.

Bagnell hit Steffan on a 30-yard touchdown strike with 38 seconds left in the half. BSU kicker Zach Pulkinen missed a 47-yard field goal as time expired and the Marauders took a 28-14 lead into halftime.

U-Mary scored two touchdowns in the third quarter and shut out the BSU defense. Murray scored on a 17-yard run on the opening drive of the half for the Marauders and converted a Miles fumble deep in the Bemidji zone for a score.
