Ladies Auxiliary meeting set

BEMIDJI – The American Legion Ladies Auxiliary post 14 will be hosting their monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at the Bemidji American Legion.

Women and water presentation set

BEMIDJI – Green Living Bemidji is hosting Renee Gurneau of Red Lake at 5:30 p.m. today at the Rail River Folk School. Her presentation, “Women and Water, Teachings from an Anishinaabeg Perspective,” will focus on the connection between women and water and the importance of water in Anishinaabeg culture. There will also be time to share stories about water and cultural significance among attendees.

Pregnancy health cooking class set

BEMIDJI – Sanford Bemidji and Harmony Co-op will present a Healthy Cooking for Healthy Communities class with chef Reed Olson from 5-7 p.m. Monday at the Harmony Co-op Community Kitchen at 302 Irvine Avenue NW.

The interactive class will cover how to prepare simple, fast and inexpensive meals that support nutritional needs during pregnancy. Reed Olson, chef and owner of Wild Hare Bistro will demonstrate how to use basic cooking techniques to create meals from scratch.

Sanford guest speakers Dr. Jane Killgore, OB/GYN, and Dr. Suzy Human, Family Medicine will also be available for questions regarding healthy pregnancy.

Registration is required by March 29 by calling Harmony Co-op, 751-2009.

Maple syrup tapping class offered

CASS LAKE – Leech Lake Tribal College is offering two free classes on maple syrup tapping from 5-8 p.m. today.

The program has a sugar camp set up for those who wish to learn how to tap trees and experience how to make maple syrup. Participants will be able to take home syrup as well. A light dinner will be provided.

The Green Living Bemidji group will be offering a carpool option for the Tuesday class.

Dayton appoints local women to board

BEMIDJI – Gov. Mark Dayton has appointed Jeanine Gangeness of Bemidji and Deb Haagenson of Park Rapids to the Minnesota Board of Nursing.

Gangeness is a baccalaureate degree educator. Her appointment is effective March 30 and expires Jan. 2, 2017. She is replacing Amy Witt.

Haagenson is a registered nurse. Her appointment is effective March 30 and expires Jan. 2, 2017. She has been selected for reappointment.
