Sustainable homes tour set

BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji Sustainability Committee will hold the 2nd Annual Sustainable Homes Tour 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 27 featuring five destinations.

Four of the destinations are homes that have incorporated sustainable design and green building techniques and one stop at the Northwest Technical College's Sustainable Environment Technologies Center.

The addresses of the homes and time frames for tours are provided in brochures located at several different locations, including City Hall, Harmony Co-ops, Lueken's Village Foods North and South, Brigid's Pub and the Bemidji State Sustainability Office.

The tour is free and no pre-registration is required, but carpooling is highly encouraged.

--PULLOUT--Guthrie picnic planned

GUTHRIE -- The 39th Annual Guthrie Community Picnic is set for noon July 28 at Ye Olde School Grounds Park and Community Center, 44255 Rail Road, in Guthrie.

Lemonade and coffee will be provided, but bring utensils and an item to share at the at the noon potluck.

A parade is planned for 1 p.m. and anyone can create a parade entry. For more information on the parade, call 224-2416.

--PULLOUT--Camp Invention offered

BEMIDJI -- A weeklong Camp Invention program is offered for children in grades 1 through 6 for 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 5-9 at Headwaters Science Center.

The children will become expedition trainees by navigating their way to special treasure-filled caches and creating solutions to challenges posed by youth around the world.

--PULLOUT--Golf Championship scheduled

BEMIDJI -- The Boys & Girls Club of the Bemidji Area is hosting their annual Golf Championship fundraiser Aug. 26 at the Bemidji Town and Country Club.

To register a team of two or four, download a registration form at www.bgcbemidji.com. The fee is $80 and includes green fees, beverages, dinner and prizes. Hole sponsorship is also available for $125 per hole.

This is the biggest fundraising event of the year for the Boys & Girls Club. Last year, the Golf Championship raised more than $10,000.
