New traffic signal replacements in Bemidji and Cass Lake to begin July 27

BEMIDJI, Minn - Motorists will encounter minor traffic delays with intermittent lane closures when a project to replace traffic signals on state Highway 197 and Ridgeway Avenue in Bemidji and at U.S. Highway 2 and Grant Utley Avenue in Cass Lake begins July 27.

Motorists should be alert to four-way stop signs at these locations when the current signals are de-energized in preparation of replacements.

The signal replacement project also includes the installation of truncated pedestrian domes at both locations. The domes are embedded cast iron curb sections that can be felt with feet or a cane and that meet the Americans with Disability Act requirements for the blind and low-vision pedestrians.

The project is one of nearly 100 Minnesota road and bridge projects that are funded with federal economic stimulus dollars through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

The signal replacement project is expected to be complete by Sept. 4, weather permitting.
