New Sanford Health logo released

Sanford Health released a new logo Wednesday reflecting its merger with MeritCare.

The official observance of the simplification of the name Sanford Health-MeritCare to Sanford Health will take place July 20.

But the health system, which has corporate offices in Fargo and Sioux Falls, S.D., introduced its new symbol to signify the unified organization, which incorporates a Lorraine cross, to employees.

"The Lorraine cross is an historic symbol, used as a rally point in battle, an emblem of liberation and a crusade for health," Sanford said in a statement released Wednesday to employees.

"The mark harkens back to our legacy, a reminder of our foundation in faith, our belief in medicine and our desire to deliver exemplary care."
