New features at Diamonds for Drakes
BLACKDUCK -- Essential oils, zumba and quilting demonstrations will all be new features at the second annual Diamonds for Drakes.
The event will be held 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 16 in the multi-purpose room at Blackduck High School.
First City Dance Studio’s goal is to have participants dancing during two of their zumba demonstrations at 10:30 and 11:15 a.m.
“We’re hoping for some interaction,” athletic director Andra Vaughn said.
Along with essential oils and new zumba demonstrations, Anderson Fabrics will also be there with quilting demonstrations. They will be joining Cottage Grove, who participated in the fundraiser last year.
Participants will have the chance to win a diamond necklace worth $189 from Riddle’s Jewelry, who is the sponsoring the event.
Attendees will receive a cup filled with ice. One of the cups will have a diamond inside and whoever has the cup will win the necklace.
A silent auction, free manicures, door prizes and food also will be offered.
Proceeds from last years fundraiser went toward new sprinklers on the football and baseball fields. They also purchased new state baseball jerseys.
“It all goes into the athletic fund and this past year we had a myriad of projects that we were fundraising for,” Vaughn said.
Proceeds from Diamonds for Drakes will support the Christian Laettner Basketball Academy held last weekend, equipment for the fitness center and softball jerseys.
“The needs are many,” Vaughn said of the fundraising.
Last year’s goal of selling 50 tickets was nearly reached, and this year the bar has been raised to 100 tickets.
Tickets cost $25 and will be sold at the door and can be purchased before the event. For tickets or more information, contact Vaughn at 835-5245.
