"The United Way board of directors is impressed with Tanya's professional experience, her commitment to community, and the positive energy she brings to our organization," Chris Corradi, president of the local United Way board of directors, said in a news release.

Harbargen was the board's top candidate, Corradi said.

"Her experience and leadership align strongly with the work being done currently within the United Way's Agenda for Lasting Change initiative," Corradi said. "We look forward to working with Tanya as we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the United Way in Bemidji."

Hasbargen has experience in public relations, marketing, communications, fundraising and customer service.

"The community's support of the United Way and the impact it can have in making positive, lasting change is what calls me to this position," Harbargen said. "I look forward to the opportunity to work with the many people who give to and receive from the United Way."

Tanya and her husband, Beltrami County Engineer Bruce Hasbargen, live in Bemidji with their four children.

Hasbargen replaces Ashli Bowen, who led the United Way since January 2008 until become a project consultant/facilitator for a community health center planning grant.

Community members are invited to attend a reception to welcome Harbargen and offer farewell to Bowen from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Dunn Bros. Coffee.
