New Bemidji State women's golf coach seeks improvement
Bemidji Minnesota P.O. Box 455 56619

First-year head coach Mark Bagaason is looking for improvement for the Bemidji State women's golf team in the 2012 spring season.

Since there are no seniors on the team, Bagaason will look toward his two juniors to guide the team this year.

Junior Kathryn Stoffels says the transition for the incoming players should not be a difficult one. "There isn't too much of a transition between the high school and college game," Stoffels said.

Two of the four freshman were not a part of the 2011 fall team at BSU.

"We're adding two golfers in spring season," Bagaason said. "Paige Tompkins, of the basketball team got third in the state of North Dakota as a senior last year. Hopefully she will add some things to our team.

The Beavers also added Laura Langer from Centennial High School in Circle Pines, Minn.

Although there is plenty of young talent, Bagaason knows the upperclassman will need to lead the team.

"I think Kathryn Stoffels has really stepped up," Bagaason said. "She's been our No. 1 golfer for the most part during the fall season."

"Rachel Wold has probably been our most consistent golfer," Bagaason said. "She hasn't had any bad days, she has just been really consistent for us."

Bemidji State will begin its spring season at the Wayne State Invitational this weekend in Wayne, Neb.

"I just hope we can some lower scores, as well as move up in the standings in the NSIC," Stoffels said.
