Nevis woman rescued from ice north of Little Sand Lake

NEVIS, Minn. — A despondent Nevis woman was rescued unconscious Sunday night on the ice north of Little Sand Lake.

Three Nevis First Responders braved the ice and conditions in cold-water wetsuits to rescue the woman, who was 50 yards from the shore.
Hubbard County Chief Dep. Scott Parks said the 45-year-old woman was alive Sunday night, but he had no further word about her condition. The three-hour search triggered a Global Connect warning from the Sheriff’s Office to residents in the area.
“We got the call about 4 in the afternoon,” Parks said. “She wasn’t at her residence when deputies went to check and her vehicle was gone so they pinged her cell phone and located her vehicle north of Little Sand Lake around Get Around Drive. The vehicle was unoccupied so they sent out a Global Connect to the people in the area and they eventually did some ground searches.
“That’s when they found her on the ice, about quarter after seven,” Parks said. “She was unconscious.”
She was transported to St. Joseph’s Area Health Services. Nevis First Response, Hubbard County, State Patrol, Hubbard County Posse and North Memorial Ambulance all responded.
