Flood water has engulfed the high school, an RV park and campground and dozens of homes in Moose Lake, a town of about 2,900 people on Moosehead Lake about 40 miles southwest of Duluth along Interstate 35 .

Volunteers worked to fill sandbags, but with flood waters rising, no one could be sure the barriers would be of any help.

Moose Lake City Administrator Mark Vahlsing says the sewer lift station flooded Thursday afternoon, adding to the community's problems. The Duluth News Tribune reports Vahlsing said sewage would be pumped directly into the Moose Horn River.

Vahlsing says it's the worst flooding the town has ever seen.
