Nation's top curlers compete in Bemidji this weekend
BEMIDJI – Many of the nation’s top curlers will be at the Bemidji Curling Club this weekend as the facility hosts the Bernick’s Miller Lite Open bonspiel.
Among the teams competing in the cash event are Allison Pottinger, Cassie Potter and Pete Fenson.
The Pottinger rink includes Bemidji curler Natalie Nicholson who is an eight-time national champion and also curled in the 2010 Olympics.
Cassie Potter and teammate Jamie Haskell also are from Bemidji and are veterans of international play.
The field also includes the 2013 and 2014 national Junior Champion Korey Dropkin rink which features Bemidji curlers Mark Fenner and Alex Fenson.
The Pete Fenson rink, which includes Joe Polo of Bemidji, won the bronze medal at the 2006 Olympics and has numerous national championships on its resume.
Also in the field is the John Shuster rink which represented the United States in the 2010 Olympics.
Pool play began Friday and will conclude today. The championship rounds will be played Sunday.
