Name of victim in fatal Baxter crash is released
A 30-year-old Little Falls, Minn., woman was killed in the Friday morning accident on state Highway 371 south of Baxter, Minn.
Melissa L. Wooden died at the scene.
The accident occurred about 8 a.m. near the intersection with Crow Wing County Road 48.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol out of Brainerd:
Wooden died when the 1999 Dodge Durango she was driving failed to yield for a red light on Highway 371.
The Durango was headed north on Highway 371 when the vehicle was struck by a southbound 2008 Chevrolet Suburban turning left onto County Road 48.
The Durango then hit a signal light.
Wooden died at the scene of the crash. She was wearing her seat belt and no alcohol was detected in her system.
The driver of the Suburban, 47-year-old Kip L. Dixon of Brainerd, was taken to St Joseph's Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. He was wearing his seat belt.
Northbound lanes on High-way 371 were temporarily closed until they reopened about 9:30 a.m.
The Durango was totaled in the accident. The Suburban sustained severe damage.
