Myrtle Evje, 89, of Bagley, died Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, Minn.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Faith Lutheran Church in Bagley, with John Omans and Mardy Schermerhorn officiating. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Monday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bagley. Burial will be in Bagley City Cemetery in Bagley.
She was born May 1, 1919, to Halvor and Gurine Widseth near Berner, Minn. She grew up in the Berner area and attended country school. She worked as a telephone operator in Gully before her marriage. She married Wallace Evje on Oct. 5, 1940, in Bemidji. They farmed in the Berner area until moving to Bagley in 1976. She has resided at the Pioneer Care Center in Erskine, since November 2008. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and its Esther Circle and the Gonvick Band Mothers. She enjoyed crocheting, bowling, golfing and square dancing.
She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Bergerson of Thief River Falls, Minn., Gloria (Larry) Eck of Vista, Calif., and Fern (Brad) Holm of Bemidji; son, Gary (Merlaine) of Gully; seven grandchildren; 14 great- grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Mabel McClernan of Minneapolis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 2007; sister, Mavis; brothers, Andrew, Palmer, Olaf, James, Alfred and Melvin; a great grandson and a son-in-law.
