Myrtle B. St. Louis, 95, of Northome, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, at Northome Health Care Center.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hope Lutheran Church in Northome with the Rev. Roy Johnson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Northome. Cease Family Funeral Home of Blackduck is assisting the family with arrangements.
She was born Feb. 9, 1914, to Ole and Mathea (Moen) Olson on a homestead farm in Nore Township, just south of Northome. Her parents had immigrated to the United States from Norway as teenagers between 1900 and 1905. She attended area schools at Orth, Woodcrest and Bergville.
She married Bruce St. Louis Nov. 23, 1935. They lived on a small farm in Orth. In 1946, they began to deliver mail in the community. She assumed the mail route when her husband died in 1972, and daughter Nyla is still driving the same route.
She moved into Northome in 1972 and finally to the nursing home in 2006.
She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church for many years. She loved animals and picking berries. Her passion was growing flowers; many people who passed by felt compelled to stop and admire them.
She is survived by her children, Philip St. Louis of Mounds View, Minn., and Nyla (John) Arnold of Mizpah, Minn.; a sister, Ruby (Norton) Breneman of Ray, Minn.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
