The official kickoff event will be Friday evening as car show participants will hold an informal get-together at the Dairy Queen on Midway Drive.

At 1 p.m. Saturday, July 16, the show cars will gather for "Cruise the Lakes." Led by the Blue Knights, the local motorcycle unit of Law Enforcement, participants will cruise from Beltrami Electric to the Lake Bemidji State Park.

The action reaches its peak Sunday, July 17, with the car show held at the Bemidji High School.

The car show will include show cars, a swap meet, seminars, collector cars for sale, food, crafts, live music, kid's games, flea market and more.

This year's featured car is a 1965 Chevrolet Malibu SS, Model Z-16, owned by Luvern Eickhoff. This car is known to be Chevrolet's first muscle car.

With only 201 of these beauties being produced in 1965, and only 65 of them remaining in good condition today, they are treasured in the car collector community. In a recent auction, one of these same cars was sold for $140,000.

The Malibu SS features a 375 horsepower engine, a 4-speed transmission, power steering, power brakes and much more.

Outdoor seminars will begin at 11 a.m. with a Big Block Corvette owned by Wes Rydell of Grand Forks.

Noon will mark the start of the next outdoor seminar. This will feature Chevrolet Chevelle Super Sport Z-16 owned by Bob Marvin of Warroad.

The last outdoor seminar will commence at 1 p.m. featuring an internationally renowned Chevrolet Yanko Camaro, owned by Loralee Marvin of Warroad. One of these cars sold for $140,000 in an auction last January.

The first indoor seminar, "Upholstery 101," will be presented by Pam Schoenfelder and Kermit Anderson and will begin at 11:30 a.m.

The second indoor seminar, "No Fuss Plants for Northern Minnesota," will be presented by Master Gardener Simon Hensman at 12:45 p.m. This seminar is designed to give information and tips on successful gardening.

The last indoor seminar is scheduled for 2 p.m.: "Make Your Yard and Home Look Great Through Landscaping," by Trent and Shannon Erickson is purposed to acquaint people with many ideas and possibilities for improving their yards and homes.

General admission for the show is $5 for adults and children younger than 15 are free with a paid adult.
