Mudcats host Grand Rapids tonight
The Bemidji Mudcats are home tonight, hosting the Itasca Indians of Grand Rapids in an Arrowhead League game.
Game time is 7:30 at BSU.
The Cats are the early league leaders at 4-0 with two wins over Hibbing and Nashwauk.
Grand Rapids split its first two, beating Hibbing 11-1 but bowing to Nashwauk 7-6.
Grand Rapids and Duluth are expected to be the Mudcats top challengers this year.
Bemidji reached 4-0 with a 3-2 win at Nashwauk last week.
Paul Fenner went the route on a one-hitter, leaving the tying run at first base in the ninth.
The Cats scored twice in the second on hits by Brian Murphy, Billy Statton and Brent Magnuson around two Nashwauk errors.
The Colts got one back in their second on a hit batter and Jamie Fillman's double which was to prove their only safety. Fenner retired the next three to strand Fillman at second.
What proved to be the winning run came in the third on a walk, ground out and Jeff Schaper's single.
The 3-1 lead lingered into the ninth when Sam Martire walked and scored, two outs later, on a dropped fly ball. But Fenner got the final out on a grounder to short.
He fanned three and walked two in posting his second win.
Fillman, who worked the first five, took the loss.

Ada stops Blue Ox
In the Rosco tournament, Ada blanked the Blue Ox 2-0 in the late Saturday game
Matt Fossen spaced eight hits, fanning three and walking two.,
But Ada's Zach Salfer allowed only one, Brian Jamieson's leadoff single in the second. A walk followed but a strikeout and double play ended the threat.
Ada scored in the second on a double and single and again in the third on single and double. Jameson Benson and Sam Kinne had two hits for the winners.
