Mudcats, Ada unbeaten during Rosco Invitational
Mayville and the Bemidji Mudcats emerged unbeaten at the 11th annual Rosco Invitational Sunday.
Under the revised format, caused by Blackduck unable to field a team, no championship type meet was able to be staged with the four visiting teams guaranteed three games.
To accommodate them, Bemidji was limited to just two.
Mayville emerged 3-0 and Bemidji 2-0 with Ada's defending champs 2-1, Felton 1-2 and Albertville 0-3.
Bemidji won its two games Saturday, overcoming Felton 4-2 and shading Albertville 1-0.
In between Mayville blanked Ada 10-0 in a five-inning contest. It closed the day with a 5-2 victory over Felton.
In Sunday's play, Ada beat Albertville 7-1, Mayville stopped Albertville 7-5 and Ada closed with a 7-1 decision over Felton.
Pitching was the strong suit of the meet with only one losing team managing more than two runs.
Ada won the final on a one-hitter scoring twice in the first and second and closing with three in the seventh.
The Mudcats return to Arrowhead League play Friday, hosting Nashwauk at 7:30 p.m. Nashwauk took their first meeting 10-1 at Nashwauk. Duluth will play a doubleheader here Sunday at 1 p.m.
