Morris B. Knutson, 90, of Detroit Lakes, died Monday, October 6, 2008 at his home.
Morris Bernt Knutson was born to Erick and Christine (Fagerberg) Knutson on Nov. 1, 1917 in Lake Park, where he attended school. Following his education, Morris worked on neighboring farms in the area. Morris married Birdie Vogt on Aug. 26, 1939 in Detroit Lakes, where they made their home.
Morris and his brother Carl worked for Bryngalson's Service Station in Detroit Lakes, 1949-68, and then began operating North Side Texaco in Detroit Lakes. Later they operated Highway 10 Pure Oil, which subsequently became Knutson Brothers' Union 76. They sold that business in 1978. Morris and Carl operated Knutson Brothers Car Service and Towing on West Holmes Street in Detroit Lakes, 1978-84. Birdie died in 1983.
Morris was member of First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, a charter member of the Eagles, a lifetime member of the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing pool and dancing.
Surviving Morris are his daughters, Judith (Bud) Larson of Detroit Lakes and Julia (John Jr.) McDonough of Fargo; sisters, Alice Anderson of Richfield, Minn., and Mabel Murray of Tualatin, Ore.; brother, Carl Knutson of Detroit Lakes; son-in-law, Roger Pfeifer of Brunswick, Ga.; two grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.
Preceding Morris in death were his wife, Birdie; daughter, Carole Pfeifer; grandson, Eric Pfeifer; and a brother, Custer.
Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10 with a 7 p.m. Prayer Service, at the David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, continuing for one hour prior to Saturday's service at the church.
Funeral services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11 at First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, with the Rev. David Peterson officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes.
