More drug-related arrests at Red Lake
United States Attorney Marty J. Jackley announced the arrest of 10 individuals Thursday from the Red Lake Reservation.
The arrests took place on the reservation and the surrounding area.
The following suspects were arrested by members of the Headwaters Safe Trails Task Force:
-- Austin Robert Head, 23, of Bemidji
-- Ricky Lee Chaboyea, 23, of Redby
-- Alton Ryan Beaulieu, 22, of Little Rock
-- Dasheena Jo Strong, 19, of Redby
-- Brandon Lee Strong, 31, of Redby
-- Marla Jean Needham, 39, of Red Lake
-- Tyrone Wayne Beaulieu, 19, of Little Rock
In addition, Herbert Melvin May, 37, and Robert Jeffrey Vanwert, 33, both employed by the Red Lake Police Department, were arrested on May 9. The Red Lake Police Department assisted in their arrest.
Billy Joe Mason, age unknown, who is currently incarcerated in the Minnesota State Penitentiary in St. Cloud, will also be transported to Minneapolis for his first court appearance.
On Wednesday, a federal grand jury returned an indictment against these defendants, charging them with conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute 5 kilograms or more of a mixture and substance containing cocaine. The charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison and a maximum of life prison, and/or a $4 million fine.
