MnDOT asks drivers to be safe on icy roads

BEMIDJI -- Local drivers are being asked to drive carefully in icy conditions.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation issued an alert Friday for motorists in the Bemidji area, citing “extreme cold weather and windy conditions.” The alert asks drivers to:

E Drive slowly on bridges, overpasses and tunnels.

E Use a safe speed for winter driving conditions, regardless of the posted speed limit.

E Keep a safe stopping distance from the vehicle in front of you.

E Keep both hands on the steering wheel, eyes on the road and attention on your driving.
