On July 15-17 the club will hold a field trial and a hunt test is scheduled for July 22-24.

Held at Keith Backer's property near Tenstrike, the handling seminar begins 8 a.m. Friday and will continue through 2 p.m. Sunday. Rorem is considered as one of the best dog trainers in the country. In addition to hosting the seminar Rorem will critique the dogs and their handlers.

The event is limited to 18 handlers. They will watch Rorem run a test dog on the various set-ups and then take their dogs on each on the field trial courses which will challenge the dogs with marked and blind retrieves.

In addition to being critiqued by Rorem the handlers will receive a DVD of their experience plus tips from Rorem.

Event officials have limited the number of handlers to 18 but there is no limit on the number of people who may be observers.

The public is invited to test themselves and their dogs at the AKC sponsored field trial which will be held at the club grounds located a few miles south of Bemidji on the west side of Hwy. 71.

"There are field trials practically every week somewhere in the country hosted by various clubs," said MHRC member Louie Churack. "And our field trial will be July 15-17."

All hunters and their dogs are invited to register for the field trial and the dogs will be placed into a variety of competitive divisions based upon age and ability.

"We welcome all dogs and their handlers and the only requirement is that the dogs must be at least six months old," Churack said.

The trials will consist of marked and blind retrieves on land and in the water.

The hunt test on July 22-24 will also consist of marked and blind retrieves and will simulate actual hunting conditions.

Dogs and their handlers will be judged against retrieving standards instead of against each other.
