On September 29, 2009 at approximately 8:57 p.m., the Hubbard County Sheriff's Office responded to a missing person report from the Care-Age Home located approximately three miles east of Park Rapids in Henrietta Township. Care-Age Home is an assisted living complex for the elderly.
Upon arrival, it was learned Gary Hanson, age 64, of Park Rapids was reported unaccounted for by employees at 6:15 p.m. Hanson was reportedly wearing sweatpants and a knit shirt. Employees contacted the Hubbard County Sheriff's Office for assistance in locating Hanson.
Due to the terrain surrounding the facility and the anticipated cold temperatures, the Sheriff's Office asked for assistance from the Minnesota State Patrol, Minnesota State Patrol Helicopter Unit, Park Rapids Police Department, Park Rapids Police Department K-9 Officer, Hubbard County Mounted Posse, Park Rapids Fire Department, Hubbard First Responders, Hubbard County Sheriff's Office ATV Unit, and North Memorial Ambulance.
After an extensive search, the Minnesota State Patrol Helicopter with the flir system (night vision) was able to locate Hanson at 12:13 a.m. Hanson was located approximately 1/4 mile from Care-Age Home. Hanson was coherent and stated he had been lying in the brush for approximately three hours. The Hubbard County ATV Unit transported Hanson to the ambulance and he was transferred to St. Joseph's Hospital in Park Rapids.
Hanson was listed in satisfactory condition at the time of this news release.
