Minn.'s Kline says no to Senate/governor run
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Rep. John Kline says he's not interested in running for the U.S. Senate or governor next year.
Kline, a Republican, said Friday he wants to take his name off the table now so it will help others who might run against Democratic Sen. Al Franken or Gov. Mark Dayton.
Kline says his party needs a candidate to emerge soon to oppose Franken because the senator has a big head start on money. Franken last week said he had $2 million in the bank to support his bid for a second term.
Kline says he'll seek re-election to his southern Minnesota House seat.
No prominent Republicans have yet emerged to challenge Franken or Dayton.
