Minnesota ice anglers get extra time this year

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Minnesota anglers will get extra chances for late-season ice fishing in March because of some changes made in the 2008 Legislative session that didn't make it into the regulations handbook.

The fish house and shelter removal deadline for the southern two-thirds of the state is now Monday, March 2, rather than Sunday, March 1, as originally printed in the 2008 regulations. The deadline in the northern third of the state remains the same at Monday, March 16.

The Minnesota DNR says the other important change is that shelters statewide can be on the ice after the March 2 and the March 16 deadlines between midnight and one hour before sunrise when they're occupied or attended. This exception had previously applied only in the northern third of the state.
