ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Gun permit holders who want to carry their weapons in Minnesota's Capitol would have to annually notify state authorities under a proposed security enhancement.

Currently, those with proper permits only have to notify the state once that they will enter the building with a firearm at some point. A recommendation presented Tuesday to a security task force would set a yearly requirement.

The panel has been exploring ways to tamp down possible security threats at the state Capitol complex. The recommendations being prepared for the Legislature don't propose metal detectors or other door screening as some state lawmakers had advocated.

The draft report does call for increasing the number of state troopers assigned to the Capitol from eight to 12, and the number of security officers from 40 to 67.
