Minn. to keep enforcing campaign disclosure law
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota's campaign watchdog says corporations and other groups are still required to reveal campaign fundraising and spending later this month after a federal appeals court found part of the state's disclosure law probably unconstitutional.
Campaign Finance Board director Gary Goldsmith said Monday he is notifying several hundred political funds that they still have to file campaign finance reports later this month.
Goldsmith says the board won't make inactive groups file one-page reports after the court found those reports "onerous."
Attorney Jim Bopp Jr. says the state should immediately stop enforcing registration and disclosure requirements for corporations and associations. Bopp represents Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life and two other groups who challenged the law.
The interpretation of the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals will be up to District Judge Donovan Frank.
