Milton 'Milt' L. Amundson
Milton "Milt" L. Amundson, 64, of Park Rapids, died Sunday, April 26, 2009 at Innovis Health Hospital in Fargo, N.D., following a stroke and heart attack.
He was born on May 21, 1944 in Granite Falls to Myron and Bessie (Saunders) Amundson. He attended public school in Granite Falls and graduated from Granite Falls High School in 1962.
He tried out for the Minnesota Twins baseball team and made it through two of three rounds before suffering a shoulder injury.
He married Linda Aarhus in 1962 and they had two children, Terri and Todd. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served his country in a military career that spanned more than 21 years.
He married Kathleen Ann Christensen in Bark River, Mich. on July 16, 1970. He traveled the world with the Air Force and saw active combat in Vietnam. In addition to being based in the states, he also lived in Thailand, Korea and Iceland. His military assignments included working as a tactical aircraft technician, an aircraft maintenance superintendent, a career advisory technician and as a personnel superintendent. He also spent several years working as a recruiter for the Air Force.
In 1983, he retired from the Air Force and he and his wife Kathy moved to Park Rapids. For a number of years he worked as a mechanic at several local shops. He later worked in maintenance at the Headwaters Golf Course of Park Rapids and the Blueberry Pines Golf Course near Menahga.
He was a member of the Guy L. McDermeit VFW Post in Menahga and a former member of the Northern Knights Street Rod Club of Park Rapids.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen, of Park Rapids; four children: Terri Laney, of Minneapolis, Todd (Deb), of Woodbury, Kelly (Brad) Bowne, of Big Lake, and Ryan (Andrea Wood), currently living in Busan, Korea; 10 grandchildren; his father, Myron (Edna Underwood), of Park Rapids; two sisters: Judy Koenen, of Park Rapids, and Gail (Harold) Christianson, of Park Rapids; a brother, Merle (Jeanne), of Payson, Ariz.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Bessie, in 2007.

Casket bearers: Ron Litzau, Jeff Youngbauer, Jim Novak, Jay Barstad, Dude Trosdahl and Gordy Bruen.
Funeral service: Friday, May l at Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids with Rev. Marty Giese and Rev. Russ Paulson officiating. Military honors conducted by the Guy L. McDermeit VFW Post of Menahga, under the command of Mr. Willie Davis.
Interment: Greenwood Cemetery, Park Rapids.
