Milton Brahmer

Milton "Bud" Brahmer, 77, of Detroit Lakes, died Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at St. Mary's Innovis Health, Detroit Lakes.

Milton was born to Herman and Pearl (Fairchild) Brahmer on Feb. 20, 1931 in rural Detroit Lakes, where he was raised and educated. As a young adult, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in January 1951, and received an honorable discharge in 1955. Milton returned to Detroit Lakes and worked for North Star Drymilk Plant, and later drove truck for Fairmont Foods.

Milton married Marlys Livingood on July 2, 1955 at Bakke Lutheran Church, rural Detroit Lakes. They made their home in Detroit Lakes, and he began working for Kershner Construction Company. Milton then worked for Detroit Lakes Public Utilities for several years, retiring as superintendent of the water and wastewater department in 1992.

Milton was a life member of the American Legion and was also a member of First Lutheran Church. He was known as a handyman, even teaching a few things to his wife, Marlys. He enjoyed woodworking, camping and dancing. The times spent with his children and grandchildren were the moments he treasured most.

Milton is survived by his wife, Marlys; daughters, Vickie (Mike) DeLaria of Detroit Lakes and Tammie (Todd) Meyhoff of Stillwater, Minn.; son, Tony (Stacey) Brahmer of Detroit Lakes; six grandchildren; brother-in-law, Vern Mastin of Detroit Lakes; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, step-father, Clyde Benson and a sister, Juliette Mastin.

Visitation will take place from 5-8 p.m. Friday, June 13, at West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, June 14, at First Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes.
