Michael John Nisbet, 38, of Grand Forks, N.D., died suddenly Thursday, March 19, 2009, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks.

A funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Mendenhall Presbyterian Church, 528 10th St. N.W., East Grand Forks, Minn. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service, at the church. Burial will be in the spring in Greenwood Cemetery in Bemidji.

He was born Dec. 11, 1970 to John and Marilyn Nisbet of East Grand Forks, Minn. He graduated from East Grand Forks Senior High in May 1989. He enjoyed music, singing in the choir, playing trumpet in the band and participating in musicals. He played in the University of North Dakota Pep Band and sang in the Varsity Bards. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks and received the award of Outstanding Public Relations Graduate in December 1993. He was employed by East Grand Forks Water and Light, Burkland Farms and the Home of Economy. In August 1997, he took a job as a communications supervisor at Minnkota Power Cooperative.

He was a member of Mendenhall Presbyterian Church in East Grand Forks. He sang in the choir for many years and was an elder of the church. He was an avid model and antique railroad collector. He visited many train yards around Minnesota and participated in many local and regional train shows. He enjoyed going to the YMCA, visiting with friends and attending UND hockey games with his family.

He is survived by his parents and a sister, Michelle, of Maple Grove, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bennie and Gladys Forde of Bemidji and Harold and Olene Nisbet of East Grand Forks; and an aunt and uncle.
