Michael David Gibeau, 61, of Clearbrook, Minnesota, died Monday, February 17th, 2014 after suffering a heart attack while shoveling snow.

Mike was born June 8th, 1952, in Red Lake Falls, Minnesota, to Omar Gibeau and Marie Bergeron Gibeau. He was the youngest of eight children.

Mike moved with his family to Clearbrook when he was four years old. He enjoyed school, taking an active role in class activities, supporting the sports teams, and homecoming and prom events. Mike graduated from high school in 1971. He continued to support the school and its clubs and sports throughout his life.

Mike was dedicated to his community. Early in his life, Mike made the decision to be active in city government, beginning a long tenure on the Clearbrook city council in 1975. He became mayor in 2003 and continued in that role until his death. As a civic leader, Mike supported or initiated almost every community project over the past forty years including the founding of the community pool, the establishment of Kloster Park, Summerfest celebrations, city beautification such as Christmas lights and flowers, and the establishment of the Clearbrook Community Center. Mike worked at Granleys Supermarket for over forty years.

Mike enjoyed entertaining his friends and family at his home. He took pride in his home displaying flowers in the summer and Christmas lights in the winter. Many community members enjoyed the harvest from his garden.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Kenneth, Harlan, Russell, and Richard, and sister Jeanne.

He is survived by his sisters and their spouses, Susan and Stanley Voxland and Kathleen and Rick Johnson, Sisters-in-law Mar, Judy, and Nan, brother-in-law Joe, and many nephews and nieces.

A sports themed celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on March 1st at the Clearbrook Community Center.
