Mentor training for professional artists
The Region 2 Arts Council has scheduled a Mentor Training Workshop for professional artists in Beltrami, Hubbard, Lake of the Woods, Mahnomen and Clearwater counties.
The workshop will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 25, in the community room at Beltrami Electric Cooperative, located at 4111 Technology Drive N.W. in Bemidji.
Participation fee is $10. The deadline to sign up is March 19.
Fosston artist, teacher and mentor Ric Sorenson will conduct the workshop, which is designed for artists who would like to provide one-on-one mentorships with students in grades 8-12.
Area students are currently submitting grant applications to fund professional artists for their time mentoring. The grant funds are available from the Legacy amendment passed in November 2008. The R2AC encourages professional artists of all disciplines, from woodworkers and writers to dancers and sculptors, to attend this workshop.
Mentoring provides students with exposure to the real-world experience of being a successful artist, allows them to hone their skills in a safe, creative environment, and encourages them to expand their minds and abilities in the world of art.
To sign-up, visit the R2AC office at 426 Bemidji Ave. N. For details, call 751-5447 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
