The Bemidji State golf team opened the 2011 campaign with a third-place finish in the Concordia Invitational Friday and Saturday at Village Green Golf Course in Moorhead.
Led by a first round-low 67 (-4) by senior Casey Hill the Beavers completed the first round in second place (294) just four strokes off the pace set Crookston (290). The wind increased on Saturday, however, and BSU struggled to a 311 and finished in third place with a 36-hole score of 605.
Danny Menton led the Beavers as he tied for fifth with a 73-72-145.
Concordia College-Moorhead shot 295-302 to take the team title. Crookston ended 290-310-600 for second.
Seth Hepner of Crookston captured top individual honors carding a 36-hole total of 70-72-142.
Hill shot 67-81-148 for seventh and John Hafdal shot 73-77-150 to round out BSU's top-15 finishes.
The Beavers will be back in action Sept. 11-12 as the team will split to compete in two events. The top five golfers will head to Troy Burne Golf Course in Hudson, Wis. to complete in the NSIC Preview while the rest of the team will stay home to host the 2011 BSU Invitational at Bemidji Town and Country Club.
