Mary A. Vrzal, 94, of Detroit Lakes, died Thursday, July 24, 2008 at St. Mary's Nursing Center, Detroit Lakes.
Mary Agnes Vrzal was born to Frank and Katherine (Vesely) Vrzal on April 5, 1914 in Manning, N.D. Her family moved to Callaway when she was a young girl. They farmed near Callaway, and she attended Country School there. She cared for her parents for many years at home because of illnesses.
In 1945, Mary moved to Detroit Lakes, where she worked for the Swift Turkey Plant for the next 32 years, retiring in 1977. Mary had a strong friendship with her roommate and enjoyed the time spent with her. She was also known to have a great sense of humor. Mary made dolls, crocheted, and did crafts. She entered many of her dolls and crocheted items at the Becker County Fair, where she won many ribbons. She also liked to play bingo and had a love for animals.
Mary is survived by many cousins.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 28 at St. Mary's Nursing Center in Detroit Lakes. The nursing center staff acted as casket bearers. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Montgomery, Minn., on Tuesday, July 29.
