Mary K. Erickson, 62, of Bena, formerly of Grand Rapids, Minn., died Tuesday, Feb.10, 2009, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Bena Community Center with the Rev. Brad Soukup officiating. A visitation will be held from noon-1 p.m. Saturday, at the community center.
Rowe Funeral Home and Crematory of Grand Rapids assisted the family with the arrangements.
Mary was born in 1946 to Frank and Marium Soukup in Minneapolis, where she grew up and attended schools. Mary graduated from Robbinsdale High School in 1964. Following graduation, she attended Itasca Junior College and earned an AA degree in Nursing. She later earned her Licensed Practical Nursing degree. Mary was united in marriage to Daniel G. Erickson on Sept. 21, 1974, in Watertown, S.D. The couple lived in Grand Rapids and the surrounding area for many years before making their home in Bena. Mary was a homemaker while her three children were growing up. She worked as a home health aide for a time before working for Leech Lake Gaming in Human Resources for the past nine years. Mary enjoyed fishing, hunting, gambling and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Daniel; daughter, Jennifer (Chris) Johnson of Hill City, Minn; two sons, Mike (Dee) Auger of Grand Rapids and Chris (Donna) Auger of Austin, Texas; a sister, Betty (Eugene) Phaneuf of Hinkley, Minn.; a brother, Donald (Marion) Soukup of Rice Lake, Wis. and seven grandchildren, Justin, Eric, Jaclynn, Tyler, Lashell, Aspen and C.J.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Jim and Frank Jr.
